Air Liquide Acquires ASU from AHMSA;
Plans to Build Fourth Unit in Mexico

Plans to Build Fourth Unit in Mexico Monclova—Air
Liquide, continuing its "rapid growth" in Northern Mexico,
has signed an agreement with Altos Hornos de Mexico
(AHMSA) for the acquisition of an air separation unit
(ASU) and the construction and operation by Air Liquide of
a fourth ASU, both at AHMSA's site in Monclova, Coahuila,
Mexico.
The company will now have three ASUs in Monclava
and one in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, for a total investment of
nearly €200-million in Mexico. All four ASUs bring Air
Liquide's total capacity in Mexico to 3,000 t/d of oxygen
and over 100 t/d of argon, making Air Liquide a "major
source of oxygen in the North of Mexico and the major
source of argon in the country," the company noted.
"As the group remains focused on leading market positions
in high potential markets, Mexico and the developing
economies of the surrounding region are strategic growth
areas for Air Liquide," explained Michael Graff, senior vice
president of the Americas
