Sadara & Solvay Begin Construction
On HP Plant to Supply PO Project

On HP Plant to Supply PO Project Jubail—Sadara
and Solvay, through their newly created Saudi Hydrogen
Peroxide Co. joint venture, have begun construction in
Jubail on Saudi Arabia's first hydrogen peroxide (HP)
plant (PCN, 1 Aug 2011, p 3).
The project will produce over 300,000 t/y of HP, which
will be used as feedstock for a HP-to-propylene oxide (PO)
plant being built by Sadara on the site, and "thereby supporting"
Sadara's PO derivative units that produce polyols
and propylene glycol (PCN, 1 Aug 2013, p 1). Start-up is
expected in 2015.
The project will be based on Solvay's advanced HP to
PO technology, "making it possible to reduce both the capital
intensity and the environmental footprint of PO production,"
Solvay said earlier.
Sadara is a joint venture formed between Saudi Aramco
and Dow, which combines Saudi Aramco’s project management
and execution experience with Many of Dow’s
technologies. The venture is building a $20-billion fully
integrated complex in Jubail to produce more than 3-
million t/y of chemicals and plastics.
